FAQS
Explore common questions about our mental health therapy service in New York.
Sessions are held over a private, HIPAA-compliant video platform. All you will need is a laptop, phone, or another device capable of video conferencing. It is preferable that whatever device is used can be made stationary and is capable of being used hands-free.
Most people connect with me from their homes, but other locations also work, as long as you're in a private space where you won't be interrupted or overheard. We strongly encourage clients to connect to sessions using a private password-protected WIFI.
HIGHLY SENSITIVE PERSON (HSP)
An HSP is someone with a trait that impacts brain sensory processing. Given the research of Dr. Elaine Aaron, people are becoming more aware of their innate need to engage and reflect deeply. This impacts how you navigate daily life and can lead to exhaustion and overwhelm is ignored or poorly managed. HSP’s have been misunderstood and fortunately, we’re here to help.
At GoodWell Therapy, we provide you with resources and skills to support your understanding of your needs and how to attune yourself while engaging with the world.
The GoodWell Therapy serves New York residents. So as long as you live in the state of New York, we can work together.
No. At this time, all therapy sessions are conducted online via a secure video platform.
We know starting therapy can feel intimidating, especially online. At The GoodWwell Therapy, we’re committed to making the process as comfortable and personal as possible. Our virtual therapy is designed to feel just as connected and effective as in-person care, with all the tools you need to succeed.
For therapy to be the most effective, meeting weekly is recommended. This way we can build the understanding and trust that make up a good working relationship. Meeting weekly also gives you time to apply what you discover in our sessions. As you progress, you may not need to meet as often. At that point, sessions can occur bi-weekly, and eventually once per month.
Sometimes, people opt to come twice a week and find more frequent meetings to be a much more powerful tool. We can discuss if more intensive work could be beneficial to you.
You can expect each session to last 45-55minutes; however it is reccomended that you plan an hour as the last five minutes are used to discuss plans for our next session
Due to the demand, your scheduling needs and my availability will be discussed during our initial consultation.
We recognize the importance of flexibility in both therapy approaches and scheduling. With our virtual platform, our goal is to provide easy access to therapy sessions that work around your life, allowing you to focus on healing, no matter where you are.
Counseling is goal-driven. During our first session, we will establish meaningful goals and regularly assess your progress. Once you achieve your goals, you may be ready to move on, or we might choose to decrease sessions until it feels right to end therapy. While we won’t end therapy before you’re ready, we also won’t create a dependent relationship where you never feel ready or able to end counseling.
If you feel that your primary issue is drinking or substance misuse/abuse, then I would not be able to help. I recommend contacting a specialist who has specific training in substance abuse counseling.
No, I do not provide crisis intervention or support.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a psychiatric or medical emergency please call 911 or present yourself at the nearest emergency room. The 988 Lifeline is available 24/7/365. Your conversations are free and confidential.
Therapy is a journey that takes time, patience, and commitment. True healing doesn’t happen overnight — self-reflection, learning new skills, and processing difficult emotions require consistent effort. While every client’s timeline is unique, many notice a significant reduction in symptoms within the first 30 days of consistent therapy, along with stronger coping strategies and a deeper connection to themselves.
We recommend committing to at least 6 to 8 weeks of weekly therapy. The progress you make will come from both the work we do together in sessions and how you apply those insights to your daily life. After that time, we can assess your growth and adjust your care as needed.
We will begin therapy with the end in mind. The goals that we establish during our first session will be used to guide the counseling process as well as let us know when to consider tapering off sessions or bringing therapy to an end.
When you have accomplished your goals, we can discuss how to end our work together in a way that will help you hold onto the progress you have made. And, of course, as new situations arise, you are always welcome to come back.
Again, we will not end therapy before you’re ready, but, we also won’t create a dependent relationship where you never feel ready or able to end therapy. The Goodwell Therapy's goal is for the client to leave with more than just symptom relief—they leave with empowerment, practical tools, and confidence to manage their mental health long-term.
For those who find faith an important part of their healing process, we offer the option to integrate Christian spirituality into therapy. This approach is never imposed—our goal is to honor and support your beliefs while providing expert clinical care.
